The course has been designed for people who need a more flexible approach to study. As this course, . Within limits set by the academic calendar, it is also possible to take short study breaks if work, or other commitments, require it. The course is suitable for those with a non-computing background wishing to enter the profession, and also for those currently working in the industry who want to widen their knowledge. We welcome applicants from any country.
This course consists of a set of eight modules:
- Systems Analysis and Design
- Databases
- Project Management and Research Methods
- Web Programming and Management
- IT Consultancy Practice
- Human Computer Interaction
- Social and Current Issues in Computing
- Strategic Management and Information Systems
The Databases and Web Programming & Management modules include practical work on a computer. IT Consultancy Practice could also include the development of a software solution for a client. The remaining modules offer a more theoretical approach to the subject.
On successful completion of four modules, students are eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Certificate. Normally, however, students study the remaining four modules to progress to the award of a Postgraduate Diploma, and then undertake a Dissertation Project to complete the full programme and be awarded the MSc Information Technology.
You will study:

- Formal methods in software engineering
- Object-oriented process and techniques
- Masters skills and practice
- Windows application programming and development
You must also undertake a substantial project where you will apply the skills and knowledge from the taught part of the course to a practical software engineering problem, usually supplied by local businesses or other external clients.
In addition to the compulsory core units, there will be the opportunity to choose a further two optional specialist units from fields such as:
